Glacier Greens Golf Course and Social Club 2017 Junior Golf Program
- To foster the enjoyment, friendship, challenge, skills, development, rules, knowledge, and character development the sport of golf can provide.
- Through Club, inter club, zone, provincial, and national competitions provide a measuring stick to challenge both the experienced and inexperienced junior golfer.
- To develop leadership abilities in those players who have confidence in their skills to help less experienced players.
- Through social play, clinics, events, provide learning opportunities to the skills of the beginning, novice, and young golfers.
- To provide an environment strong in peer support and allow for a positive exchange between the senior and novice junior members.
- To provide professional training on an ongoing basis for a nominal fee to aid in the long term development of junior golf in the Comox Valley and on Vancouver Island and beyond.
The Junior Program is designed for junior golfers aged 8-18. Glacier Greens Golf Club must approve golfers under the age of 8 who wish to be part of the junior program for membership. Consideration will be given to under 8 juniors who have previous playing experience and/or have worked with one or more golf professionals to develop their games.
This year the program will change to offer as many options and the most amount of flexibility to parents and caregivers. The new programs will give each student a chance to participate all summer long. The pricing for the new programs is as follows:
Elite Program- $650 plus tax
The elite program will include a Glacier Greens logo shirt and hat. To be eligible for this you must sign up with shirt and hat sizing by April 15th.
Glacier Greens will be offering a program where juniors will be giving the opportunity for more teaching and learning from a PGA of Canada golf professional. The program will run from the beginning of May until the end of August. The program will include:
- 12 controlled practice sessions
- 4 on course playing sessions
- 8 1/2 an hour private lessons
- Evaluation and Progress reports
Controlled practice will take place on every Friday of the month excluding the last Friday (which will be the playing sessions) starting in May. The controlled practice will give the juniors a time to practice skills that need improvement with feedback from a PGA of Canada member.
On course playing sessions will give the junior a chance to test their skills on the golf course amongst their peers. Playing with the juniors a PGA of Canada member will be providing advice and information based on the performance of the juniors.
8 hours of private lessons. Each junior will be responsible for booking their own lessons. The lessons will break down into 2 half an hour lessons a month. The junior will be able to book those lessons through the instructor.
Progress reports will be provided at the end of every month. The progress report will relate directly to initial evaluation. The progress reports will be very important to the juniors development and understanding where improvement needs to be done.
Gold Program- $240 plus tax
The gold program includes two 4 hour camps and two 4 week programs. This program is designed for the junior who wishes to be very active in the game of golf. Clinic registration should be done by April 30th/17. If the junior wishes to participate in any of the other camps or clinics they will be given a 25% discount.
The gold program will include a Glacier Greens logo shirt and hat. To be eligible for this you must sign up with shirt and hat sizing by April 15th.
Silver Program- $150 plus tax
This program includes one 4 hour camps and one 4 week programs. This program is designed for the junior who enjoys the game of golf but is active in other summer programs. It gives the junior the opportunity to set there schedule and participate when they are available. Juniors that register before April 30th will receive a hat. If the junior wishes to participate in any of the other camps or clinics they will be given a 15% discount.
Bronze Program- $130 plus tax
This program is for the beginner golfer. It offers two 4 week programs. This program is the easiest to participate in and does not require the junior to be connected for more than 1 hour. Juniors that register before April 30th will receive a hat. If the junior wishes to participate in any of the other camps or clinics they will be given a 10% discount.
Single Participation $75 plus tax
Any junior is welcome to participate in any of our clinics offered. They must sign up one week before the start date of the clinic.
All Military families will be offered a 10 % discount on the rates above. ID must be provided to the pro shop
4 hour camp
During the 4 hour clinics the juniors will be taught chipping, putting and driving. The clinics will have a snack provided and the children will have the opportunity to play some golf on the golf course. With the early spring clinics the juniors will enjoy relearning some of the fundamentals and honing their skills. In the later clinics the juniors will continue to work on their practiced skills and learn some new technique.
These clinics will be offered in the morning and the afternoon. Some restrictions of age and of number of participants may apply. If the clinic is under subscribed Glacier Greens reserves the right to cancel it.

4 week program
These clinics will all cover different parts of the game of golf. The clinics will be meant to help the juniors progress through the stages of Future Links and Golf Canada’s long term development program. The clinics will adjust to the skills of the participants. For these clinics to run there must be a minimum of 3 participants.

Any junior member in good standing may participate in the junior program. Nominal fees apply for travel expenses (green fees and/or entry fees) when playing in inter club competitions, and any other zone or provincial events. Transportation is at the discretion of the parents and is not provided by the club. There is a $20 charge for competing in Glacier Greens Junior Club Championship. Annual range pass is available to Juniors for $150 +GST.
Times of Play
Juniors may play by booking through the pro shop at 250-339-6515. Late afternoons are the best times for juniors without an adult or adult guest to play as the course is quieter. Juniors are not permitted to play Saturdays before 11:30. A junior with an adult guest may play without restriction at the discretion of the pro shop staff. Please check calendar of events frequently to identify busy periods and events. All members and their guests while on the property should observe proper behavior and dress code. Profanity and poor behavior will not be tolerated and can result in a loss or suspension of playing privileges.
Junior Instruction is available from our team of talented teaching professionals. Please contact the golf shop for details and to set up an initial evaluation. Rates and times vary based on class size or private instruction and programs chosen.
There are a multitude of tournaments throughout the year for junior golfers and our members. The Glacier Greens Junior Club Championship is open to all junior members and is scheduled for August TBA. A $20 entrance fee applies.
Junior Golf Tours
Juniors may all play in any other amateur tournaments they wish by contacting the organization and paying accordingly the required fees. All juniors who wish to compete in tournaments must have a valid handicap and have their handicap cards updated by a shop member prior to competition.
Zone 6 Junior Golf Tour
The Comox Valley falls under the zone 6 tournament calendars and has 12 Spring Tour events scheduled from March to April. Summer Tour scheduling begins May and runs through July 2013. This is a great opportunity to test your skills against other juniors from Chemainus to Campbell River. Details can be found at www.bcgazone6.org
Anyone wishing to compete in the spring and/or summer tours must complete a Competitor registration certificate and agreement which can be found on their website as well as a spring/summer tour entry form.

High school Golf
The high school golf season is short in BC with Championships held at the end of May each year. Vancouver Island High School Golf Championships typically happen Mid May. High School Golf is divided up into three categories ‘A’, ‘AA’, ‘AAA’
Juniors interested in participating in High School Golf should contact their school administrator, golf coach, or counselor for help. Glacier Greens extends an offer to all local high school golf teams to practice and do their try-outs at our facility for nominal fees. We also offer CPGA Teaching Professionals assistance at no charge during March/April to aid in team development.
