News / Event: Managers News letter
Description: Spring Newsletter Managers Report 01-05-08 Are we ever going to warm up? The official start of the Golf Season is upon us; now that the Master’s has come and gone for another year. Now that it is here, please warm up so we can play in short sleeve shirts. First, I would to thank everyone that renewed there annual dues and welcome back past members that took a sabbatical and also new members to the club. We do appreciate your support in making Glacier Greens a true hidden jewel in the Comox Valley. Maintenance News: I would like to acknowledge Doug Slauenwhite for his 17 years of service as our Mechanic. Doug recently retired from his job but not from the golf course. He has traded in his socket set for one of those Graphite Drivers. The torch has been handed over to Jim Ferguson a long time resident and golf enthusiast. Also leaving the crew was Michael Pritchard as our Irrigation Tech expert; Wayne Wood has taken on his new role as Irrigation Tech. New to the crew is James Scott and Gary Hong. Kudos should go out to the Maintenance Crew for their efforts for getting the course in excellent spring conditions. The greens and tee boxes have recently been aerated and should bounce back nicely bye the time this newsletter gets out. The fairway’s have been top dressed with C133 grind, unfortunately it was not discovered until spread of some of the bigger nuggets found in this batch, we do apologize and will look into this with the supplier. So if you have not had a chance to play lately then get out there. Our early focus this spring is to address the well situation, we are currently assessing our pumps and if need to, explore further well development. We need to be self sufficient. The driving Range will be moving to the grass tees effective May 4th. You will also notice in the coming days recycle bins for beer cans, pop cans, plastics etc. Please use the recycle bins provided on each hole. The Crew will be working diligently in providing an excellent product for both members and guest so respect the efforts they put in and remember they do have the right away when approached. Social Centre: The Social Centre will be moving into extended hours in the coming weeks. Hours will be posted on the Main Doors. Keep in mind the grill will be turned off ½ hour prior to closing. You may have noticed that No Minors are allowed in the Social Centre at this time. We currently comply under a Liquor Primary License for 19 Wing. Under this type of license Minors are not allowed access into the Social Centre unless using the washrooms from the main entrance. I am currently working on changes to this license. The applications have been submitted and waiting for review. I do apologize for this inconvenience and will be rectified shortly. One of our staff members (Wendy Mossman) will be taking a six month work leave to go to Kandahar, Afghanistan with our troops. We wish her the very best and safe returns. In the near future we will be organizing a care package that will help her needs. More information to come. We welcome back all the staff and they look forward to another successful golf season. The new summer menu is out and you will notice some modest price increases. I feel we are still priced fairly in the market but the industry is being hit bye severe rising food cost. On a lighter note the patio is currently being prepped for the warmer temperatures so one can curb his/her appetite and thirst. We hope you enjoy our new menu and new selections and we do appreciate your continued support of the Social Centre. The season has approached quickly and will be in full swing in the upcoming weeks. I am here to ensure the product is in the best possible condition with the resources we have and excellences in service is provided to the membership and guest. If you have any concerns, suggestions or even to invite me for a round of the golf the door is always open. I have relocated offices to the back of the Social Centre in the Banquet room. My next newsletter will be in July, enjoy the golf course, your golf buddies and keep your toes in front of your heels and you will always find the fairway.
